Twitter keeps growing by leeps and bounds. First it inks a deal with Microsoft and Google, now it has teamed up with Linked-in users. The changes are supposed to take effect immediately. You are going to be able to check out a person’s Linkedin profile via Twitter and vice versa all with the check of a box. They could not have made it any simpler. This is a great move for Twitter because it has now Linked up with the largest professional social networking site. Linkedin boasts 50 million users as of this story breaking a couple hours ago.

According to Allen Blue, the co-founder of Twitter, Linked-in users will be able to post messages directly to Twitter. It will have the same messaging terms as Twitter, such as the 140 character limit. Also members that post via Linkedin will automatically be posting to their Twitter following allowing users to search via keywords, location and so forth. On top of this users will have the ability to filter what materials from LinkedIn is shared with Twitter. Although a large portion of Linkedin users are also on Twitter it will give you a broader audience for your Tweets. I know that you can already post to them all at once with services like Ping.fm. Ping is only a posting service so you are not able to share the wealth of information that you will be able to via Twitter and Linkedin.

Twitter wants to capitalize on the personalized nature of Linkedin as someone at Twitter was quoted, “wants to take advantage of the strong identity in LinkedIn to make those professional tweeters more successful.”

I encourage everyone to sign up to receiveĀ  updates as I’m sure this story will continue to evolve.
