Avoiding a Car Color Catastrophe

By A.L. Foltz from The Running Board

A car is like a person, and when it comes to colors it’s important to choose one that fits its personality. The wrong choice is devastating. Imagine the shame a Ferrari would feel if it were cloaked in a dull, inconspicuous army green and not a wet, showy Italian red. So before risking an irreparable blow to your car’s ego, let’s take a look at the meaning of each color and the auto-persona it best matches.

Black Range Rover- This proper British sport utility has a decades-old pedigree and is both timeless and edgy. It prefers to wear black, which is formal, mysterious and powerful.

White Cadillac Escalade- For a vehicle doused with chrome and rolling on 22’s, the only logical color is Cadillac’s signature “white diamond”. White is clean, crisp and fresh. Add in the “diamond” pearl effect, and the white Escalade symbolizes youthful wealth.

Gray BMW X5- The perfect color match for the X5’s sharp lines and cutting edge technology. Gray is cold, contemporary, and sturdy. The same can be said about the German engineered X5.

Red Jeep Wrangler- A rambunctious little SUV that is better suited for the trails than for the freeway. The Wrangler is impractical, spontaneous, and energetic, which is why it’s best dressed in a bright red, a color that is aggressive, punchy and passionate.

Green Subaru Forester- Often driven by a politically correct 40 year old, this vehicle is practical, low maintenance, and eco-friendly. Green is the appropriate color, which is stable, inoffensive, and responsible.

Silver Honda Pilot- With three rows of seats, a multitude of cup holders, and conventional styling, the Pilot is the ubiquitous family crossover utility vehicle. It’s most always seen in silver, a color that is durable, generic, and popular with the masses.

Blue Volvo XC90- The XC90 consistently satisfies as an upscale family SUV. While it doesn’t sell in huge numbers, it is solid, predictable, safe and secure. This Volvo prefers dark blue, a color that is conservative, loyal, and passive.
