Guns For Clunkers
October 31, 2009 by Gainesville Detailing · Leave a Comment
I did not really understand the cash for clunkers thing. This will be discussed in another post. What I do like though is the idea that San Tan Ford and Max Motors are doing. If you come in to purchase a vehicle you will receive a $500 sporting goods gift certificate that can be redeemed for a gun. Does anyone else find this to be extremely ridiculous? I sure did. I would like to hear any comments that anyone has about this.

CIA Tapping Social Media

As if we did not have enough big brother to worry about we now have the Intelligence arm of the United States Government investing in Social Media. Cia on Twitter? Surveillance in 140 characters or less? The CIA’s investment arm, In-Q-Tel, recently invested into Visible Technologies. Visible Technologies is a company that tracks what is happening in the Social Media community. According to their senior VP Blake Cahil their TruCast Engine “casts a net on whatever the client wants to know more about,”. Just what we need is the CIA casting anymore nets on anything.

2008 Nissan Xterra Paint Recall?
October 25, 2009 by Gainesville Detailing · Leave a Comment
So I was presented with what appeared to be a beautiful blue Nissan Xterra. The deep dark blue really looks nice when polished up right. Needless to say I was pretty stoked to be detailing it today. Upon further inspection of the Nissan Xterra I was shocked to see what I thought was a lot of thing droppings of tree sap. I also noticed a lot of minor surface scratching from what appeared to be improper washing techniques. When I leaned close over the hood of the Xterra I noticed that the sap was not really sap. What was present all over the hood was little round spots that were spidercracking. Spidercracks are small cracks in the paint that look like the web of a spider. Hence the name spidercracking. Now remember this is a 2008 Xterra that is still under warranty. Some of the cracks in the paint were to the point that the paint was chipping off. I immediately informed the customer that he should bring it to the Nissan dealership. The reason I titled this as a possible paint recall is for one reason. This is the fourth time I have seen a 2008 Nissan Xterra with this type of paint defect. It is only on the hood. No other spots on the suv’s paint are there cracks present, except for the hood. This leads me to believe that something in the paint is causing it to start to crack when subjected to high temperatures. I am currious to see just how many other Xterra owners have experienced the same exact problems. I was pretty bummed out that I did not get the opportunity to detail this beautiful suv. My customer took my advice and went straight to the Nissan dealership. I have not heard back from him as of yet. Please if anyone has any additional information such as, the same type of occurrence, leave a comment.

Water Based vs. Oil Based Protectant
October 20, 2009 by Gainesville Detailing · Leave a Comment
Both water based and oil based protectant work great. Although both of these types of products work well, they work for different applications. You let the situation determine what type of product that you will use and what part of the vehicle it is. Your water based protectants will attract less dust and lint to the surfaces that they are applied. Although water based may attract less dirt and dust it will also wash away a lot faster than the oil based products. This should be taken into consideration when applying products to the outside. For outside trim, tires and wheel well area I prefer to use a good oil based product. Not only will the oil based product provide a nice deep gloss it will also last longer when exposed to the elements. The reason behind this is due to oil not liking to mix with water.

Quick Rundown on Microfibers
October 19, 2009 by Gainesville Detailing · Leave a Comment
Many people have heard of and even used a microfiber cloth. In the auto detailing industry these are pretty much the choice of professionals. They can be used for just about any task involved with detailing.
What is a microfiber? A microfiber is a material that is made up of two different fibers: Polyester, and Polyamide. It is very densely woven with strands that measure 1 denier. What is a denier? A unit of measurement of linear mass-density of textile fiber calculated as one gram per 9000 meters. (Wiki) Human hair measures at 20. So the fibers used are 1/20th the density of a human hair. What does this mean? Some of the highest quality microfibers have upwards of 200 thousand strands per square inch! This provides for an ultra soft, super strong cloth that can stand up to the demands of cleaning and washing.
